Welcome to our Blog!

Project Kadutu begins today and aims to tell the story of 24 sexually abused women trying to regain the normal course of their lives. Our objective is to help them become economically independant. To do so, they will have to start from something as simple as reading and writting. Therefore we will be working on two different programs:  1. Intensive three months alphabetization course and 2. Fuel briquette making production.

The later will be tested for the first time in DRC, although it has proven positive results in other parts of the developing world. It will generate a steady income to the women while helping preserve the endangered forests and its massive charcoal consumption.

The roads in Kadutu on a rainy day

Kadutu is a very poor and overpopulated neighbourhood in Bukavu, south of lake Kivu. Thousands of women have been raped during the violence in Kivu provinces during the last seven years. Throughout the years of fighting, more than two million people have been internally displaced. Sixteen million people are suffering from a critical food shortage and thousands have already died from a lack of food, clean water, medicine and shelter. Women are sexually abused so incessantly and so brutally that many are left with deep physical and mental scars and the perpetrators are not only armed men, but also male civilians.

Project Kadutu is the story about some of these women rebulding their lives after what they have endured.

  6. Hello Virginia, Wow, Amaziing! I agree with Sheryl, the fuel briquette project is brilliant. Just brilliant. The work you are doing is making a full circle. I’m blown away. If these woman can restore their lives by making fuel briquette’s then the mountain gorilla will benefit. That is so lovely, I’m going to cry. Will you work with Robert and Ephrem of Ending Charcoal at WD on this project? This is just the push I needed to get off my rear and start working on that fundraiser for WD in September. You are an inspiration. Keep up the fantastic work, girl!……and please send an email if you need anything at all. I really love what you are doing. Lisa

  7. Heartbreaking, inspiring and compelling. It certainly gives me hope to see efforts and positive actions like yours put on to such a noble and moving initiative. Please let me know of whatever I can do to help. I would love to. Keep it up!

  8. defenetly heartbreaking and breathtaking … not only it gives me great honor to have you as my friend (-or better Primi) but it feels me with hope to see that there are still some of us that are aware of the situation our environment is going through… knowing and saying is not enough … we have to let our drive take life!
furthermore i was left speechless after reading ( and after our talk) about these women who were forced and abducted…

It feels me with joy reading about your forcefulness and energy…I hope that your spirit influences many!

Let me know what can i do to help …thank you!
all the best and keep it up!!!

  9. Virginia, this is AWESOME! I can’t wait to hear more, and I hope there’s some way I can help and support this program.

  10. Dear Vir,
thank you for sharing with us this reality and making this happen. I admire all those women who have the wisdom to go out from so difficult situations with dignity. Please, let me know if I could help with anything.

    Big kiss,

  11. Felicitaciones!
